Color Play Friday: Backyard Rest

This week is a picture of Lorind'as doggy lounging in the back yard.  What gets me the most about this picture is how she must have been laying across the ground to capture it! Its such a good photo though, perfect for the family album.

I kind of rushed getting this put together because I'm really struggling with time management lately. As a result I really feel like the yellow sticks out like a sore thumb, but I just don't have time to work it out - I mean its Friday right now so I'm already late not to mention weeks behind with the other photos! If I could justify more time for this fun project I would totally work out they tellow and try to pull a deep or rosier brown.

Color Play Friday: Library of Congress

I've had to take a little break from Color Play Friday, but now I'm back! Hopefully, everything is in order and I won't have to take any more breaks because I really miss this creative challenge.

I took this picture at the Library of Congress in 2013. The place was amazing! There was literally to much for one person to see, especially on a short trip, so I tried to take as many pictures as possible!

I decided to turn the palette Christmas-y because even though Halloween and Thanksgiving haven't passed yet I'm really starting to get anxious about celebrating and decoration for Christmas!

Color Play Friday: Fall Walk

Lorinda took this photo while we were on an impromptu morning walk earlier this month with our friends and the kids.  The leaves started changing mid-September, but the change is in full bloom now.  I love it.

This week I picked out fabric from Spoonflower that reminded me of all the fun things fall brings for us.

Color Play Friday: French Coffee

Things are starting to look normal around.  I'm a little scared to say it, but I think we can finally ease into our fall routine.  We have made it through our first calm, full school week of the year, and things everything is starting to fall in place.  I mean obviously, I'm always behind schedule compared to what I want to do, but that's because there aren't enough hours in the day for all my ideas and plans -prioritizing is important.

Anyway, even though I'm in a spill your guts writing mood I need to move this along since I have a date with the Long-Arm Machine this morning and need to make sure I'm completely prepared for that!

This week's photo is another one of my #foodie shots while on my DC -NYC-Buffalo Trip the fall of 2013.  Le Pain Quotidien is one of my most favorite places to eat in the US.  (Seriously I've been to 27 states and this place made my top 5 places to eat in all of them --- and it is a small chain!!! I wouldn't believe it either, but I ate there 3 times in one 11 day trip, it was so fantastic I dream of that organic french pressed coffee and those little bowls! hahaha)

Color Play Friday: Boys on the Beach

It has been an exciting and crazy week here.

My Momma came for a visit! It had been about 848 days since I last saw her so it was a big deal! She was able to see a lot of the area around where we live, and more importantly she was able to meet Nathan and the Little One for the first time! Of course, they've talked on the phone and Skyped, but this was the first time for them to meet each other in person.  The 4 1/2 days was so special and wonderful!

It was jammed pack too, and I'm still catching up from taking the vacation, but everything is starting to fall back in place. This just happens to be why I'm just now writing my post at 4:00pm PST!

Also, I think I have used a few of these fabric before -like before they were actually in the shop, but I just saw them again the other day and fell in love with them all over again so I decided to make them work with the palette! I think I see some of these coming home with me in the very near future!

All of the fabrics are from Dear Stella and can be found here along with their coordinates.

Color Play Friday: Naked at the Airport

Hello Friday!

We just finished our first full week of school! Oh my! I'm beat! Of course its 10pm Thursday evening and I have a mountain of things still left to accomplish for the week! (I really feel like I may set unrealistic goals for myself!) So I made this as simple for everyone as possible!

First of all!

Winners!!!
(Both winners from my blog have been contacted.)

Linda, won my bundle, and Stephanie won the bundle from Quilting Mayhem!!!

Now for getting Naked at the Airport hehehehe

This is a bit of a cheat because all of the fabrics are from the Painters Canvas Collection by Laura Gunn, but seriously everyone does need all of these.  They are fantastic blenders and the colors are beautiful!

Maybe the other participants had a little bit more time to invest in their bundles this week. I'm curious to see what everyone else came up with because there are a surprising amount of colors in this photo.

Color Play Friday: Bridge in Fall

Thanks for stopping by to check out this week's #colorplayfriday. If you would like to learn more check out this blog post and visit this #colorplayfriday page for tutorials.

The weather is changing rapidly here in the Pacific Northwest. Last week we were lounging at the lake, and this week I'm wearing my leggings and sweater trying to find an indoor activity for the children in my charge today. This is a great photo to capture these changes as we switch gears for the fall -promptly on September 1st! (That, to me, blows my mind!)

This was one of those sort of weeks where the fabrics don't really play well together in a conheasive project, but they all fit a "Fall to Me" theme! I seriously want to order that pumpkin spice latte fabric, how adorable is that?! Also the umbrella is perfect for the fall showers beginning here. In Oklahoma we would still be finishing up the harvesting and canning (which had I done this year would be done with by now here), so I included the apple and the canning fabric to represent that part of my autumn feel.

Do you have anything that you associate with fall besides these things?

So this picture was taken about this time of year two years ago when I was stuck on public transit on my way to my first job at a different quilt shop in Bellevue, Washington. I had just moved up to our northrn neck of the woods, which made the commute in public transit anywhere from 3-5 hours round trip! Now you can understand the anguish and bordom in my face!!!

At first I debate whether or not to add this photo to the #colorplayfriday photo pool, but there are so many colors in it (thanks to filters) I really thought it would be fun to work with. Lorinda chose it for this week because we are on the last leg of summer break and this is basically how we are feeling now.

I'm sorry that I missed last week. The Little One's birthday celebrations, along with other family changes, dominated my time and I totally forgot. Now, here it is Monday morning, and I'm just now posting last week's #colorplayfriday. I'm sure I will get back into the swing of things too. Just a lot going on in the last month of summer vacation! Thank you for baring with me.

Color Play Friday: Idaho Storm

Thanks for stopping by to check out this week's #colorplayfriday. If you would like to learn more check out this blog post and visit this #colorplayfriday page for tutorials.

Be sure to check out Lorinda's bundle, and see what the other participants came of with as well. (Links listed below.)

Today's bundle doesn't really go together in one project. Instead I went with natural brain flow which looked something like this....
Idaho Storm > minus the storm because its dark and deary here today and I don't want to focus on that > Idaho.... > hmm everyone knows potatoes come from Idaho I should see there is a cool potato fabric on Spoonflower!

So I browsed potato fabric and kitchen fabric for a while because its so cute. Then I remembered one of my favorite parts of Idaho was the Craters of the Moon place we camped out when I was 14. Also I remembered all the signs warning about respiratory infection or something like that from rodent poo... so then I had to start searching rodent fabric!!!

This is my brain sometimes -sometimes its scary, but I found some super cute indy fabric! Check it out!

I took this photo while at the Oshkosh air show in 2012. I thought it was so much fun to see so many colors in a "boring ol' engine". I wasn't wrong!

Today all the fabric comes from Spoonflower. At first I was looking for aviation themed, but it quickly morphed into hot air balloons because there were so many fun ones! Keep in mind that clicking the links takes you to the full picture where you can see and purchase these fabrics made by Indie designers which is perfect because July is Support Indie month (Independent designers and shop owners).

I'm making this short and sweet because I'm starting to get anxious about school letting out. Monday is the last half day in our town, so that gives me just 1 1/2 days to get everything ready. Logically speaking, there shouldn't be that much left for me to do because the summer is just like every weekend, but emotionally I feel like I'm not ready at all. The boredom box hasn't been restocked, the summer toys haven't been sorted through from last year, and snacks haven't been portioned for easy kid retrieval. I'm probably totally over thinking this, but its what I do! Anyway, before I send myself into a panic attack lets move onto the fabrics for this week.

Technically I'm not sure if I would bundle these fabrics together in one quilt project, but I do like the playfulness of the fabrics which where I was going with this.

Color Play Friday: Brick Wall

Be sure to check out Lorinda's bundle, and see what the other participants came of with as well. (Links listed below.)

This bundle took more time to put together than I expected. (Good thing I remembered today was Thursday so I wasn't scrambling to get it together Friday morning!!!)

I spent a lot of time trying to make my first palette work. By the time I finally gave up on it, this is what it looked like. (Mind you there were other colors at first, but they just weren't working out either.) I'm really interested now to see if anyone else saw the teal and if they were able to make it work. (Love #colorplayfriday for so many reasons, but that's probably the biggest.)

After that confuddle I took a moment to stretch it out, and come back fresh. Then it only took about 20-30 minutes to get it all together. (Yay!) This week, after the apparently struggle with the first bundle, I decided to opt to find all the fabrics on Hawthornethreads.com using their color tool.

The Fabrics:

Creative Note: If I was using these fabrics in a project, it would probably be a baby quilt. I would definitely fussy cut the "Little Birds" print. Also, though I love Bari J's artwork, the "Poetic Saddle" print is one of my least favorite in in entirety; however, it is so fantastic when it is cut up. -To me it is a perfect example of how much a fabric change once you start cutting and sewing and cutting and sewing and so forth.

This picture was taken at the Moda booth at one Spring Quilt Market I attended. I actually think it was Salt Lake City in 2011, but I don't remember for sure. In honor of their fun booths I picked all Moda fabrics for this week's bundle -which was a little more difficult than I anticipated because their colors are a little "off" compared to what I would normally work with. Either way I think I picked out some fun ones.

I'm at quilt market and totally slacked this week on CPF so I had to throw this together this morning before heading to Market. I'm sorry its not as well thought out or inspired, but its still wonderful because of the Cotton and Steel!

I used all Cotton and Steel fabrics this week because I'm so excited about my new fab babies -mostly adopted from Cotton and Steel!

I will post more about Market later. In the meantime here are the participants.
